In this three-quarter portrait, Aaron wears a blue, red and yellow cloak over a red tunic. His regalia is labeled: the headdress bears the words "Holy to the Lord" and the breastplate with the twelve stones is labeled "The names of the tribes of the Children of Israel." The biblical commands to make these items are written to the right and left of Aaron's head. At right is Ex. 23:36 "And you will make a plate of pure gold and engrave on it like a signet..." At left is Ex. 28.2: "And you shall make holy garments for Aaron your brother, for honor and beauty..."
