The German inscription on these finials indicates they were donated by Lesser Gieldzinski to the Danzig Jewish Community. Gieldzinski was a wealthy merchant and art collector who gave his entire collection of Jewish ceremonial art to the Great Danzig Synagogue in 1904. This constituted one of the earliest known Jewish museums.
