Shanghai, China - April 1946. Several thousands of the Anti-Nazi European refugees who fled to Shanghai during Hitler's pogroms against the Jews live in this crowded camp across from the Ward Road Jail in Shanghai's Hongkew section. More than 50 people live in a room suitable for one-third the number. The men and women are segregated in this camp, one of eight which UNRRA is supplying with foodstuffs, clothing and medicine.
