The tefillin bag was presented to Abraham Benazeraf on the occasion of his bar mitzvah. Benazeraf was in the grain business, and was very active in the social life of the Jewish community of Casablanca. He served as its vice president, and helped create the first Jewish cultural center in Morocco as well as a tuberculosis center. His family were Sephardi Jews originally from Tetuan.
