This Torah ark curtain once hung in the Maghen David Synagogue of Calcutta. It bears a dedicatory inscription in memory of Sonny Solomon, a Flying Officer in the Royal Air Force during World War II, and a member of the Baghdadi community of Calcutta. The twenty-five year-old Solomon was the only Jew from the community to perish in combat, during air operations over France in 1944.
