This reversible Torah binder is filled with references to Sue Trytell’s Jewish identity and her native Australia. Its blue and white colors are those of the flag of Israel. The mulberry bark fiber she used to make the paper is a strong and durable material and also symbolizes faith according to the artist. The embroidered motifs include flowers (for love), butterflies (for space and the air we breathe) and fish (for the sea and as a reminder that Australia is an island continent). The binder also bears two biblical inscriptions about the Torah “which Moses set before the children of Israel.”
