This bedcover was made in Baghdad and sent to Rashel Meer in the United States by her mother. Gold and silver foil embroidery on netting was a type reserved for brides and was used for items given to the bride by her mother. Such textiles would have been used on the wedding night and to cover the bed of a post-partum mother. The mix of floral and figurative motifs is characteristic of these embroideries.
