The owner of this tallit bag received it as a gift for his bar mitzvah in Baghdad. Its finely embroidered decoration of plum blossoms and its fasteners, however, suggest the pouch was made in China. A number of Baghdadi Jews moved east and created their own communities there, but still maintained close ties with the Middle East.
