The ornateness of Interieur Baroque reflects the sumptuous lifestyle of the wealthy, land-owning family into which Cavaglieri was born. The artist specialized in paintings of luxurious interiors filled with costly furnishings, objects of art, and elegantly dressed women. In a perfect merging of subject and technique, his impastoed application of the paint directly from the tube onto the canvas heightens the tactility of privileged comfort.
Associated, from 1909 to 1913, with the modernist artistic circle exhibiting at the Ca' Pesaro in Venice, Cavaglieri visited Paris in 1911 where he was influenced by the works of Vuillard and Matisse.
