Ori Gersht’s Ghost series explores both the symbolic power and the vulnerability of the ancient olive trees of Israel, traditionally invested with political and cultural significance. Gersht intentionally overexposes these photographs, bleaching the film and fading the images of the sturdy trees. The resulting forms appear ghostly and delicate, almost dissolving before our eyes. Gersht transforms these ancient and weathered symbols of strength into images of fragile beauty.
