Not On View

In the 1940s during the German occupation, Jean Fautrier worked on his well-known series of paintings, Otages (Hostages), that represents his response to the Nazi atrocities committed on French prisoners. The paintings and related prints depict brutalized, disfigured faces and bodies and act as a chilling indictment of the horrors of war.
