Not On View

Past and present are embedded in the sites depicted by German filmmaker and photographer Wim Wenders. Layers of history, taking the form of geological strata, are represented in the emphatically vertical photograph. Jerusalem Seen from Mount Zion overlooks a graveyard that seems to be churned up--a result of the constant construction in the city. In this work, the spiritual and the material, the sacred and the banal, seem to coexist vertiginously.
