Although this embroidery is typical of Rabat in its density, the combination of bright colors and its motifs: stylized bell shapes and zigzag borders, its use is unique. Its Hebrew inscription suggests it was used as a Torah binder. The major motif of the embroidery is the repetition of the letters aleph and tof, the first and last letters of the Hebrew alphabet, which may be a mnemonic device for the phrase "the light of the Torah."
