Ori Gersht is one of several artists in the new vanguard of Israeli photography. These photographers are actively redefining the priorities of their generation, both in terms of religious and cultural identification, and in expressing and memorializing the Holocaust. Gersht photographed his series "White Noise" through the window of a train moving from Kraków to Auschwitz. The veiled signs of life in the snowy Polish landscape allude to the visual deprivation and emotional terror of prisoners who traveled the same route in windowless cattle cars.
