Multimedia artist Cary Leibowitz was one of the few men included by curator Marcia Tucker in the landmark exhibition Bad Girls, which introduced a new generation of humorous and edgy feminist art, at the New Museum of Contemporary Art in 1994. Leibowitz remarked that men making art about gender try to be good boys, not bad girls, often making fun of masculinity, while avoiding sexist imagery.
