Catherine Yass's photographs are compelling interior views of architectural sites. Here she focuses on the Einstein Tower in Berlin (constructed between 1920-24) to evoke the charged nature of its architectural and scientific history while confronting two icons of pre-World War II German-Jewish culture: Jewish expressionist architect Erich Mendelsohn, who designed the tower, and Albert Einstein. Yass placed her camera in front of a mirror in order to intercept the light filtering into the tower and capture the moment of transition from white to colored light.
