Not On View

Vik Muniz confronts history, specifically the history of art, through his own form of appropriation. He remakes works by well-known artists-such as Alfred Stieglitz or Cindy Sherman-in unusual materials, including chocolate and sugar. In photographing the result, Muniz emulates the original while playing with the deceptive nature of representation. His photographs become performances in front of the camera where perishable or unstable materials are momentarily preserved in time.
