This lamp was made by Maurice Farhy when he was about twelve years old. Farhy’s parents had moved to France from Turkey after World War I, and were deported during the Second World War. Maurice, his sister, and two brothers were hidden by peasant families during the war, and after liberation were sent to a children’s home near Paris. To celebrate Hanukkah in 1946, Maurice created this large wooden Hanukkah lamp, which was later given to the museum by the Joint Distribution Committee, the sponsor of the children’s home.
