The Hebrew inscription in the central panel indicates that this Torah mantle was donated by Blümle, daughter of Hayyim Sinzheim of Vienna. Sinzheim was one of a privileged few, known as Court Jews, who attained positions of prominence in finance, diplomacy, and trade in the Germanic lands during the 18th century. The reference in the inscriptions to the rod of Aaron and the House of Levi suggests that Hayyim Sinzheim was a kohen, a member of the priestly class.
