The composition of this rug is based on a photograph of Theodore Herzl taken in 1901. The center field is divided into two zones. The upper is filled with a frontal bust portrait of Herzl. Below is a hanging mosque lamp in a niche, the subject favored for prayer rugs. The flowers between the bases of the columns are a sign of paradise. Although derived from classic prayer rugs, the forms and composition of the lower half here are debased.
