This mantle is Sephardic in form, originally having a slit up the back that at a later time was sewn together. The front bears a Star of David made of metallic braid, but the inscriptions and embroidery are concentrated on the back (depicted here). A flower, possibly a pomegranate, appears on either side of the slit. To the left of the opening are the words magen David and to the right, Levi Souissa, presumably the name of the donor.
Souissa is a common Moroccan Jewish family name which may indicate the origin of the mantle in the Maghreb.
