When the Jewish section of the American Communist Party founded the Morgen Freiheit in 1922, it was one of eleven daily Yiddish newspaper published in the United States. These papers covered a spectrum of political ideologies, from traditional to radical. The cartoonist William Gropper joined the staff of the Morgen Freiheit in 1925. His drawings commented, often with biting satire, on topics ranging from local politics to the activities of trade unionists to national and international affairs.
