The Fürth master Johann Jakob Runnecke was a prolific silversmith, the majority of whose works were Jewish ceremonial art. Although Rosenberg had originally suggested that the maker's mark "IR" belonged to an unknown smith named J. Rimmonim, the mark has since been identified as that of Johann Jakob Runnecke, the son of a Berlin silversmith Johann Runnecken (Timann). Runnecke produced some forty works of Judaica; stylistically, they span the Rococo and the early Neoclassical periods of around 1750 to 1800.
