These bird figurines have sometimes been found with nude female figurines, model beds or couches, and rattles in homes, tombs and sanctuaries. This particular example comes from Tomb 1002 at Lachish. It has therefore been suggested that these groups represent some type of Israelite cult objects, possibly associated with the goddess Asherah.
