Tulle embroidered with metallic gold threads and tinsel was often used to fashion clothing associated with important events of the life cycle like marriage. The amount of gold on this dress, especially on the collar, plus its Hebrew inscription make it unusual. The skirt and sleeves are embroidered with sprigs of flowers alternating with sequins. The wide collar is decorated with larger flowers in gold tinsel and is bordered by an undulating line from which sprigs emerge. The waistband bears a Hebrew inscription: Dedicated by Mr.Yusef son of the h[onored] f[ather] Yadegar, [May] God p[rotect] and [save him]. This reading may indicate that the dress was given to the community and used by more than one bride.
