A nearly identical lamp by Szwarc was published in 1927 as modern, thereby suggesting it was made around that time. The artist studied at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux-Arts in Paris, and primarily created bronze reliefs that were shown in exhibitions throughout Europe and the United States. Among these were the artwork for two pavilions in the 1939 World's Fair in New York. Szwarc also made woodcuts.
