Weiner immigrated to the United States with her parents in 1928. In the forties she studied at the Photo League with Paul Strand and Dan Weiner, whom she married in 1942. Weiner worked as a team with her husband, photographing (1950–59) for Fortune, Life, Collier's, Harper's Bazaar, McCall's, and Sports Illustrated, where she worked as a picture editor from 1959 to 1964. She often photographed children and published numerous books for them, illustrated with her pictures, including It's Wings That Make Birds Fly: The Story of a Boy (1968) and Small Hands, Big Hands: Seven Profiles of Chicano Migrant Workers and Their Families (1970). Weiner has taught at New York University (1970–73) and at City College of New York (1975–81). Her work appeared in the exhibitions "The Photo League," at Howard Greenberg Gallery in New York City (1993) and "The Women of the Photo League" at Higher Pictures Gallery, New York (2009).
