In 1913 Disraeli immigrated to the United States, where he worked in a commercial photography studio before joining a news and feature agency at age twenty. His photographs appeared in magazines such as the Saturday Evening Review of Literature and Fortune. He was a frequent and popular lecturer at the Photo League from 1937 to 1940, on both technical matters and on photography from a social and cultural perspective. He was deeply engaged in the League's debates about the nature and role of documentary photography. Disraeli also took an active role in administrative tasks at the League, serving on its advisory board and on the committee for a photography exhibition of at the 1939 New York's World Fair.
