Goldstein came to New York City with his family as a child. An amateur photographer, he joined the Photo League in the early 1940s. His work appeared in PM magazine, together with photographs by other League members, in 1942. During World War II he joined the League's War Production Group. Goldstein's work was included in the exhibition "This Is the Photo League" (1948–49). A photograph by him was published in the American Heritage History of Notable American Houses by Marshall B. Davidson (1971).
